Holding It Down

Thompson knows it's an important job to make sure the ground doesn't get away.

The Feline Ferdinand

Not to underestimate the little guy, but I've long felt that it's a good thing Theo doesn't have to try to survive as an outdoor kitty. He's far too trusting and I can see him wandering over to a wolf or a hawk just to say a friendly hello after spending an entire day in a field of flowers, savoring the lovely fragrances.

Yesterday proved my point.  I was reading a book on the couch and Theo and Diego-san were sitting looking out the living room picture window. I heard a faint buzzing noise but didn't pay much attention to it figuring a neighbor was out mowing his/her lawn. Theo started moving around, with some urgency and I saw Diego-san change position to get a better look at what caught his brother's attention. I got up to take a closer look and saw that Theo was trying to scoop a bumble bee with his paw presumably up to his nose or mouth to get a better smell or taste of his new friend. Given the amount of buzzing, the bee was a little more than  agitated. Luckily I acted in time and prevented Theo from experiencing a difficult learning lesson. I scooped the bee into a cup, brought it outside and let it go free...

Catster in the Rye

The hipster sits on my book bag in front of my collection of JD Salinger books. Similar to Mr. Caulfield, Diego-san sees his mission as catching any kittens from falling over the ledge...

Louie

One of my favorite TV shows is the FX series, "Louie" featuring the comedian Louis CK's biting observational humor.  Last week's episode had Louie bumping into a doctor (played by Charles Grodin) he previously went to for treatment of back pain. In that episode, the doctor basically told Louie that there was nothing he could do to help, since humans were meant to be horizontal and not vertical and that's why we have back pain. During their second encounter Louie tries to get some advice about whether or not he should date a woman who will be leaving the country shortly and likely never to return. The doctor looks put off- wondering why Louie is bothering him for advice. The doctor is walking a three-legged dog and asks Louie, "How many legs does this dog have?" "Three," Louie answers. The doctor replies, "The correct answer is he has enough legs." Further in the conversation the doctor poses another question,"Do you know the only thing happier than a three-legged dog?" Louie shrugs. "A four-legged dog."

The point seems to be there almost always is somebody worse off than we are and part of life is learning to be happy with what you have.

Thompson has been trying to teach me this for years...

Weekend Perspective

Enjoying the three day weekend. Of course for some of us every day is part of the weekend.

Deep in Thought

Thompson thinks there's nothing more fascinating to stare at than his feet.

Good at Not Looking

Theo is working hard not to look at the TV, not to look at Diego-san, not to look at me.  He's just plain not gonna look.

Making Biscuits

This has become part of the nightly routine... Diego-san kneads the blankets while I'm playing my guitar.  I think it was recommended by his therapist.

CSI Boy

Theo knows if he sees an UP (unidentified pile) on the floor, the best thing to do is lick it to try to ID what it is by its taste.

Award Winning Tail

I forgot to mention that during their recent visit to the vet, when the vet tech saw Diego-san she declared, "We have a winner for the most impressive tail of the day award." Diego-san doesn't disagree with the decree. When he's not flaunting it, he's enjoying his own floof.

Contagious

I'm not exactly sure why sometimes when I'm around Thompson, I suddenly feel very sleepy.

Tipping Point

Sometimes one's brain gets so full that it's all one can do from tipping over from the weight of one's head.

Diego-san Hendrix

Don't look the nonchalant look fool you.  I was woken up yesterday morning by the sound of Diego-san plucking my guitar's strings. He clearly was showing that despite my taking guitar lessons for the past three years, his natural ability was far more soulful.

Dapper T

This was the boyz first excursion into the world of cat modeling. Unfortunately the photographer wasn't up to the task because try as he might he couldn't capture how dapper Thompson looked in his bow tie.

Theo's Thought for the Day

Life is far less confusing when you look at things through a rectangle That's why TV make things look so easy.

A Ditty

"Here comes Thompson, here comes Thompson, hopping without a cane... He doesn't care if you're good or bad because he loves you all the same... He just cares that his dish has food and his bed is good..."

The Look

Diego-san was a little less vocal than his brother about the annual visit to the vet last week.  But his look told me all that needed to be said.

A-OK, Kind of

Thompson and Diego-san had their annual visit to the vet last Friday. They both were not shy about letting me know how they felt about the trip. Thompson hissed at a couple of pugs that were in the lobby. When we finally got to the exam room he kept growling at me.

I've been more than a little worried about him recently. He's been drinking a lot of water and correspondingly urinating a lot. I know these are warning signs for a lot of bad things in cats. The vet ordered an extensive blood test. I was very glad when she told me the results. Thompson's kidneys are functioning at a normal level. His glucose level is also normal  meaning no diabetes. Since his weight has remained steady and his appetite OK, I'm just supposed to monitor him for any more changes.

Goodbye, House

We moved my dad to a senior living facility a few months ago and got his house sold a couple of weeks ago.  I went back for the final time to the house to pick up some stuff.  I didn't think I'd feel too sad about selling the house I grew up in but I have to say I got a bit misty when it hit me this would be my final visit...

Nothing

What could possibly be more fun than knocking over a empty laundry basket and climbing in?  The answer for Theo is NOTHING!

Zinger

I told Thompson yesterday was hump day. He told me that every day living with me is hump day.  Ouch.
