I got home and read the day to day notes from the boyz's babysitter. I wasn't surprised to read that Diego-san dominated her time by demanding constant attention. I wasn't surprised that Thompson was a little reluctant to approach her at first, but by the end of the week was waiting his turn for her attention.
What did surprise me was that Theo spent much of the week hiding after he was done with his meal. He's usually the friendliest of the boyz when it comes to greeting people that aren't over on a regular basis. My theory is that he has become the most schedule dependent boy of the trio. The boyz are fed three meals a day, and Theo spends much of his time waiting for the next meal to be served. When I'm gone the boyz get the same amount of food, only it is served all at once. This probably really threw poor Theo off and he didn't know what to do with the rest of his day.

Bad Newz
I had to break the bad news to the boyz... once again I'm taking a trip and they will be on their own for a whole week. I hired the sitter that stopped in and looked after them when I took a trip last Christmas so they are in good hands. However, the routines like on demand fresh water out of the tap will have to wait until I get back...

Strange Days Indeed
The weather has taken a turn for the bizarre around here. It suddenly turned into summer yesterday with temperatures in the mid-90's. Today was equally hot and humid but it was incredibly windy. I thought I was going to be blown off my scooter on my way home from work.
The boyz are trying to figure out what is going on but what chance do they have when all them schooled meteorologists can't explain it.

I Hop
Here's one of my favorite sights in the whole wide world: I'll be sitting at one end of the hallway upstairs and Thompson will come up the stairs and be standing at the other end. I'll call his name and he'll run to me as fast as he can. I wish I had the technology to get a video of this but it is such a wonderful sight to see him hop enthusiastically towards me meowing/grunting all the way. When he finally gets to me he'll stick his face forward- a sign he wants his face rubbed. Everyone involved is rewarded...

Happiness
Tonight was the first softball night of the season. Although we ended up forfeiting because we didn't have enough players, we still scrimmaged. It felt great to get out there again and I did pretty well both hitting and fielding wise. Many years ago one of my friends told me the only time she ever saw me truly happy was when I was out on a softball field. Of course she hasn't seen me romping around with my current roommates...

The Club
Driving home in a long line of cars near the University of Minnesota, I looked up at a balcony of an apartment and saw a handsome black dog. I was admiring the dog while waiting for the stoplight to turn green when the dog turned around and headed back inside the apartment. That is when I noticed it was missing its right front leg. It's odd how I feel a kinship with the club of animals that Thompson is a gold star member.

Anniversary
Six years ago, Thompson and Diego became my roommates. You can read about how we all found each other here: The boyz.
It's been a really great six years together.

Squirrelly Watching the Squirrel
I was watching Theo watch a squirrel who was climbing a tree that sits outside our living room window. The squirrel had caught Theo's eye by quickly dashing up the trunk of the tree. Theo himself dashed to the window and kept a close eye on the squirrel. Occasionally he would look back at Thompson who was laying nearby on the floor. Theo's look to Thompson conveyed one of two things: 1) he couldn't believe Thompson wasn't interested in the visitor climbing the tree; 2) he needed instructions on what to do next when one spots a squirrel.

Choices
Last night was the first night it was warm enough to leave some of the windows open overnight. I woke up a little after midnight and heard it raining. So I closed the skylights. I noticed Thompson was asleep underneath the open skylight where when the winds blew the right way, a little mist came in. He must have been enjoying the fresh air so much that he was willing to tolerate getting a little wet.

Ain't No Cure for Love
I went and heard Leonard Cohen last night. Cohen is an artist I never thought I'd get the chance to see since he doesn't tour that often. The last time he was in the Twin Cities was 1993. And the guy is 74 years old. It was a very entertaining show. It's not often you get the chance to see an old guy skipping across the stage.
