Spa Time
Thompson's royal treatment was interpreted by a sound. The sound both boyz pause to look at? The melodious sound of Diego-san hacking up a hairball...

Vertical Boy
Even in this excessive heat Theo, unlike his brothers, is almost constantly vertical, with his patented 'I'm ready to go, let's get going, what are we doing next?' facial look.

Horizontal Boy
It's been extremely hot and humid outside for the past few days with no relief forecast in the near future. Diego-san has spent even more time than usual horizontal rather than vertical. I guess someone's strength has been zapped by the weather.
P.S. Now I see what Thompson was looking at from down below...

Moo
Got some cat grass at the farmers' market. Diego-san proves just like his predecessor, the late great Mr. Max, he is part cow.

Ants in Your Pants
Thompson was lying peacefully on the floor cleaning himself. Suddenly he leaped about a mile in the air. This may qualify as normal behavior for Theo, but I'd never seen Thompson act that way before. I took a closer look and sure enough there was a huge ant crawling up his leg. He was able to shake it off and then trap it with his front paw. The difference between Thompson and Theo? The ants attacking Theo are usually imaginary (as far as I can tell)...

This is Not a Test (exactly)
The civil defense sirens started blaring around 10:15 p.m. Sunday night. The boyz and I had already been in bed for about an hour (yes I'm a cranky old man who tries to get in bed by 9 p.m. most nights). I grabbed my iPhone to see what was going on and saw that our city was under a severe thunderstorm warning due to a storm system that had heavy rains and strong winds (gusts up to 75 mph).
I turned on the TV and saw there were blobs of bright orange and yellow on the radar. I'm no meterologist but have learned in general terms that bright colors on a weather radar usually are not a good thing. I took a quick inventory of the boyz and saw all three sleeping in various locations in the bedroom (our bedroom is upstairs).
Over the years I've tried to teach the boyz our severe weather protocol- going down to the basement of the house. This has been met with varying success since each of the boys tends to run upstairs under the bed when they have a concern. This time I decided I would go downstairs and turn on the TV without trying to herd the boyz since I looked outside and it was only lightly raining.
Sure enough, Theo followed me down probably thinking food was a possibility. I watched the TV weather report for a while when I lost my TV signal as the lightning was lighting up the sky at a specatular if somewhat frightening rate. When I shut the TV off I noticed all three of the boyz were nearby looking at me. I guess the combination of thunder and lightning, and this strange deviation from our normal sleep routine got their attention. Thankfully the storm blew by without causing any damage.

Grass is Always Greener
The boyz seem to appreciate when I open up the wallet a bit and turn on the air conditioner when the house feels like its a zillion degrees. But that means the windows get closed (we are not going to air condition the world). When the windows are reopened, the boyz tend to line up as if the windows have been closed for a zillion years and they better appreciate the fresh air before I'm mean again and close access once more...

Do You Speak Diego-san?
Diego-san wants something.... Can you guess what it is? (We'll post the answer tomorrow).

Cody
The boyz and I have continued to think about adding a fourth member to our household. I've been thinking about arranging another visit to Cody's foster home to see if this time I can actually meet him. The first visit I learned he was just starting to come out of his shyness around humans a little bit. I know I'd enjoy having him around and Theo would love another playmate.
Thompson accepted Theo warmly even though there are times his younger brother irritates him. Diego-san would probably be fine with Cody if Cody understood there are certain Diego-san rules that must be followed. The question is how Cody would feel about the wacky world of our little abode. Perhaps I can have his foster mother read him our blog to prepare him for daily life here...
