Water On, Water Off
Thompson and Diego-san let me know that they think it might be easier for drinking water purposes if I just built a freshwater stream that runs throughout the house. I'll get right on that.
The next best thing is probably a device that attaches to the faucet and the cat can turn it on to get a fresh drink. It really exists; I bought one, but haven't hooked it up yet. An electric fountain is also fun, but sometimes the novelty wears off.

I will add my vote to this idea. I hope you can find somewhere to rent a jackhammer and backhoe.
