Learned Perspective

Theo finds that if you lean over just a wee bit, things seem to make a little more sense.

Silly Human

Diego-san spent the evening watching me struggle to mow what only seemed to be knee high grass due to all the rain we got over the weekend. He just doesn't understand why I do things that make me so cranky when I could be inside spending more time with him...

Phoenix 2011

Flew out to Arizona for the weekend to see the Twins lose two games to the Diamondbacks. It was a nice little trip (except for the results of the games). I was one of the first 15,000 fans Saturday so I got an All Star Game Garden Gnome. Woo hoo.

P.S. The boyz were mighty wound up when I got home. Theo threw up his first meal and Diego-san ran around like he had been shot out of a cannon...

Theo's Island

I told Theo that just like Gilligan, he has his own hammock. I also told him that just because he shares that similarity with Gilligan, that wasn't why I called him my little buddy.

House Plan

The dreaded suitcase has made an appearance... Diego-san suggested before we think about adding a fifth member to the household that the existing four are first accounted for and present.

Comforter

Spring is finally here. This means not freezing to death in an ice cold house at night. It also means snuggling is voluntary and not mandatory to maintain and steal others' body heat.

A Secret

The boyz and I have a little secret to share. For the past month we've contemplated adding a fourth boy to the house. His name is Cody.

Cody was found near a dumpster in a trailer park. One of his front legs was broken and it later had to be amputated. Two people associated with the rescue organization sent me Cody's information knowing about my absolute fondness for my life with Thompson and the fact that Cody looks a little like Thompson. At first I didn't even think about possibly adopting Cody, but the thought of giving him a good home eventually started playing on my mind. My city has a three cat per house limit, and to add any more requires me to obtain the signature of any neighbor living within 150 feet of our house.

I finally had a chance to meet Cody last Friday. During my entire visit to his foster home, he hid underneath a bed. His foster mother said he's a very shy boy right now- he's only recently finally gotten comfortable enough to climb in bed with her at night. She wasn't sure adding him to a house with three other male cats would work very well. Currently his housemates are two female cats. When I first started thinking I might be interested in adopting him I thought about if it would be unfair to him since there is a pecking order in our house, a very set routine and it would definitely take an effort on everyone's part to accept him into that order and routine. I know it would happen eventually but I don't want to add unneeded stress to a life that already has had a difficult beginning.

I'm not sure what the final decision will be, but whatever I decide I really really hope Cody finds a great home...

Boy of Perpetual Motion

Tale of Woe

On my way home from another depressing Twins' baseball loss, I decided I'd stop and pick up some dinner. There's a Vietnamese pho restaurant on my route home from the ball park and pho sounded good so that's where I decided to stop. Unfortunately when I pulled into the parking lot I saw a sign that says the restaurant is closed on Sundays.

So I headed home and was greeted rather indifferently by the boyz. That's when I said, "So guys you want to hear my tale of woe? There was no pho to go." I chuckled and Thompson looked at me with his, "this is what I have to put up with in this house" look.

Keep Out

Living in a house with two brothers and a guy always looking to take photos to use on the blog can make finding any privacy difficult. That doesn't stop Diego-san from trying.

Guitar Guard

Diego-san is either guarding my guitar from pouncing brothers or trying to guard me from getting to the guitar. It's likely the latter rather than the former...

Gotcha Day

Eight years ago, Thompson, Diego-san and I became housemates. It's been a wonderful journey and I'm glad we've gotten a chance to share much of it here on the blog.

Memories of our first meeting(s)? I remember being impressed how Diego nearly lept up into my arms the first time I saw him at his foster home... I also remember how surprised I was the first night they came to their new home how Thompson was the more courageous of the two- investigating all parts of the house while Diego immediately ran to the basement and hid for two days. I did wake up to find Diego peering at me from off to the side of the bed. As soon as I reached out to pet him he ran back to the basement. Another memory is the first time I tried playing with Thompson and I rolled a ball toward him. Unfortunately I rolled it on the side of his missing leg and as he bent over to try to catch the ball with his mouth he tipped over...

Oh the fun we've had...

Happy anniversary boyz...

Working Cat Blues

It was a rough day for Thompson. Theo interrupted three different naps.

Windows were finally open much of the day... Spring might actually be here, much to Thompson's delight.

Cacophony

Last night as I was practicing my guitar, Diego-san decided to hop up onto the clock radio. Eventually he pushed the button that started the CD inside to play. I went over and shut that off but a few minutes later he pushed the button that started the radio playing. I guess he was trying to tell me if I wanted real music in the house, the clock radio was a much better option. Unfortunately for him, I'm not that easily discouraged...

Spring Cleaning Part 3

Whenever we watch a french movie, Theo makes sure to stick his paw deep in his mouth to get it extra clean. We don't think he's trying to make himself vomit because of some kind of anti-French feelings. Sometimes we just never know why Theo does what he does.

Blurg

The boyz and I awoke to a coating of snow yesterday morning. Granted April is the second snowiest month historically in Minnesota but still... after going to my first Twins baseball game last Sunday and riding my scooter to work for the first time Tuesday, it just didn't seem fair...

Papa Razzi

I think my filming Thompson and Theo interrupted some quality brother time, turning some brotherly love into a whap on the head.

Wednesday, April 06, 2011

Bye Bye

I have a detached garage so as I leave on my way to my car I walk around the side of the house. For the past month or so Theo has perched himself on the cat tree by the side window where he can see me round the corner of the house. He almost tilts over as I pass by the window and wave. It's become one of the favorite parts of my day (that this picture doesn't quite capture).

Clean Slate

Thompson and Diego-san had their annual visit to the vet. Both checked out fine. Diego gained a pound over the past year but the vet said he looks fine, he's just a big boy. Thompson squawked all the way on the ride over and back, letting his displeasure be known quite articutately.

Backed into a Corner

Diego-san takes it the hardest whenever I leave the boyz alone for any length of time. He's the one who has figured out what the suitcase means. He's also the one who tries to distance himself from me when I get home. His behavior this time around was classic Diego-san... he meowed at me when I walked through the front door... ran to his dinner dish when I put out food, but disappeared the rest of the day... that is until Theo chased him into a corner. From there on, he seemed to forgive me and returned to his normal over affectionate self...

Baseball's Back

Flew down to Atlanta to see our Minnesota Twins play a couple of exhibition baseball games against the Braves at Turner Field. It felt good to be outside in OK weather (it was in the 50's and drizzly ) but it felt even better to feel the beginning of a new baseball season in the air. The boyz survived their abandonment and were pretty peppy when I got back...
