Half Eaten Meals

Norma only partially ate a couple of her meals yesterday. During her visit to the vet a few ago, the vet said to monitor Norma’s eating because I reported she sometimes skips her meals altogether. (Kenta can’t fathom this). I hope a return trip to the vet isn’t needed.

Time Together

I miss taking naps with Norma. But that is more than made up with her crawling under the covers at night and sleeping the whole night next to me. Her purrs in the morning mean the world to me.
 

Love

Kenta is definitely a window cat just like his predecessors Max and Thompson. He loves watching the world outside the living room window. I think he loves most everything about his life, except rationed meals and trips to the vet.

Kenta’s Big Adventure

Kenta had his first visit to the vet with me. I thought the appointment was at 1 p.m. but I doubled checked the reminder email at around 12:25 p.m. and was horrified to see the appointment was actually at 12:30 p.m. The clinic is about five minutes away so I quickly grabbed Kenta and brought him down to the carrier. He was not a happy camper.

I’ve never had a cat try harder to get out of the carrier. He was crashing up against the doors both above and in front. He usually has a tiny squeak of a meow but he was screaming his displeasure. He was so upset I thought about rescheduling the appointment but figured he wouldn’t do any better later on. He pretty much meowed during the entire drive, time in the lobby and in the examination room. He checked out fine and the vet noted what a sweet cat Kenta is. 
 

Closer

Norma has been spending more time with me recently. Maybe she thought when I stuffed her into the carrier/car she was going to a new home… Or maybe she was glad to have a solo adventure with me.

A Trip

Norma was peacefully resting in her cat tree (yes, it’s her’s) when I snatched her up, brought her downstairs, and put her in the carrier. I had moved the carrier to the living room last week. She barely had time to protest when we were off to her annual visit with the vet. She let out her displeasure during the car ride, but once we got to the clinic she quieted down.

I think she was more unhappy with being confined in the carrier than she was worried about where I’d taken her. She checked out fine doing her best to escape the clutches of the vet. I told the vet that Norma is the only cat I’ve lived with who skips meals on occasion. She lost a little weight over the past year (she weighs just over eight pounds) so we’re going to keep on eye her eating habits to make sure it’s nothing serious.

When we got back home she was more snuggly than usual happy with my singing her praises on how well she had done.

Next week it’s Kenta’s turn. Please don’t tell him.
 

Alias the Notary

This box has some important paper work I’ve been working on. One of the documents needed a notary. I guess Alias tried his best to assist.
 

His Best Day Ever

I left food out and Kenta took advantage to have five meals instead of the normal three. I swear I can feel his weight gain. And he was at his laziest during his food gouging. 
 

Appreciation

I so love how these two have found a way to melt my heart almost every day the past four years. Their snuggling, their (mostly) play fights, their acceptance of first Theo, and now Kenta, has inspired me on multiple levels. Alias and Norma had mighty big paws to fill when they became my housemates in 2020, with all that lived here before, and they have definitely carved out their place in that legacy.

Got That Out of His System

Once or twice a day, Alias bellows at the loudest level. This is followed by him tearing up and down the hallways and stairs. Once he gets that out of his system, he returns back to calm and huggable Alias.

Football

Right on season, Kenta’s new favorite toy is a stress relief spongy football. He carries it all over the house replacing his toy porcupine. It was one of the toys that spent years lost underneath our living room couch.

Favorite Toys Reappear

I lost my wallet Friday. I was pretty sure it was somewhere in the house because I used a credit card the evening before and I knew I left the pharmacy with my wallet and came straight home. I tore the house apart much to the anxiety of my housemates. As I swept things out from under the two living room couches a dozen cat toys appeared. Some pre-dated even Norma and Alias. Theo was a master at swatting toys underneath a couch.
 

Labor Day

Kenta plans to hang with his brother during the three day weekend.
 

Combed

I gave Kenta a combing yesterday. We’ve done it around five times and I can’t tell if he’s enjoying it or not. He tolerates it for awhile and then wanders away. He constantly is cleaning himself so i thought helping to remove some loose fur might help… He does love his hairball medicine (that we call ‘goop.’) As soon as he sees the tube, He tries his best to access it…

 

Boom Boom

We had a really bad thunderstorm last night. There were a lot of big trees down in the neighborhood due to the high winds. Heavy rain and lots of lightning and thunder. At first Norma was alarmed but she seemed OK as it continued on.
 

Poor Kenta

I scared Kenta over the weekend. A couple of my work team stopped by the house to drop off a care package. We don’t get many visitors to our house. The only one during Kenta’s time was the Rover.com person who came over to put out meals and clean litter boxes when I was out of town.

So having other people in the house is new for Kenta. One of my team loves all the pictures she’s seen of him so she asked if she could meet him. He was sleeping upstairs so I picked him up and carried him down the stairs. When he saw the other two people in the living room, he freaked and wiggled his way free and fled downstairs. It occurred to me that it was similar to how I picked him up at his foster home. Kenta saw me as the foster mom went to gather him up. He got scared and ran down the hall and into the bathroom and when I got him into his new home he spent an entire week hiding under a bed. 

I wonder if he thought I was giving him up to another home. Once he was convinced I was the only person remaining in the house, he cautiously came out of hiding. I went downstairs to watch the Twins’ game and he joined me, rubbing his face against mine and staying with me for a long time. I think it was his way of thanking me for keeping him around.

 

Purchase Gaining Acceptance

The new tree is gaining popularity although Norma is the only one who has taken advantage of all its options.

The New Tree

This is the newest cat tree. If you think it was simple to assemble, you’d be wrong. Of course what made things even more difficult was Alias and Norma wanting to snoopervise. Alias kept jumping on pieces that weren’t completely assembled causing things to fall. After I finished, Norma was the only one to check it out.

I don’t spoil my housemates.

Next time I have insomnia, I think I’m going to try to sleep on top of that box top. Kenta makes it look so cozy.
 

Big Sister

These two don’t spend a whole lot of time together. Yet it’s clear both are glad to have the other around.
