Kenta Honoring a Brother He Never Knew

This was Thompson’s favorite tree to nap in. Kenta agrees with Thompson that the tree is perfect. Enough room to stretch out. The perfect sized raised wall to rest a head on. And a window with a view (Thompson used to love watching the squirrels run up the trunk of the Ash tree that now is gone).

The Dreaded Red Dot

I got a laser pointer. I had one many years ago. Da Boyz loved chasing the red dot. But then I heard laser pointers aren’t good for cats so I put it away. Recently I did some research on why laser pointers aren’t good for cats and found out you don’t want to point the laser too high where the cat could try to jump in a way that might injure her/him. (I used to do that to poor Theo who would try to jump up to the ceiling to catch the allusive dot.)

Kenta and Alias immediately took to chasing the red dot. Alias in particular didn’t want to stop. Norma was more scared of the dot than curious or wanting to chase it. I also read that I should let them catch the dot on occasion otherwise rising frustration might occur. So I let Alias “catch” the dot although I’m not sure it eased any frustration.
 

Napper Hall of Fame

This house has seen many a great napper. But Alias takes a back seat to no one with his napping skills.
 

New Food

We’re trying food from Smalls.com advertised as real food as opposed to  dry cat food and canned cat food. Norma and Alias wanted no part of it but Kenta never met a plate of food he’d walk away from. Hopefully the food is as advertised, better for his health. And there are suggested ways to get Norma and Alias to accept it- putting small amounts in their other food.
 

All Snores

When I was a kid, one of the most exciting nights every summer was the baseball all star game. My current housemates didn’t share my excitement last night.

Kenta’s New Friend

It took Kenta a few days but he finally played with his new stuffed hedgehog. This one is larger than the other one and I ended up also buying a smaller one with catnip inside. Kenta loves his hedgehogs.

Fighting Style

Kenta is an open mouth fighter. It amuses me how when he’s wrestling one of his go to moves is to lean back with his mouth open. 
 

Go To

This is a new go to place for Kenta to nap. It’s also a favorite of Norma’s and was a favorite of Theo as well. I guess the corner prevents any sibling sneak attacks and the box top is comfortable enough.
 

Kangeroo

Kenta’s favorite toy is this stuffed hedgehog? Porcupine? (I call it his kangaroo for no reason at all). No matter where I place it, it always ends up somewhere else in the house. He carries it in his mouth to the place he deems best. Yesterday I picked it up and it was soaking wet. I think Kenta may have dropped it in his water dish. I threw it in the dryer. But it now smells funny.

I checked the label to see if I can wash it but it said no. I noticed the toy contains catnip. That can’t be why Kenta loves it so much since we’ve had it for many years (my Dad bought it for Diego-San, Thompson, and Theo who never once picked it up) so whatever catnip is inside has long lost its potency. Alias and Norma too have had zero interest in the hedgehog/porcupine/kangeroo. I’m guessing the wet catnip is what is making it smell. Or maybe it’s covered in Kenta’s saliva. I honestly never smelled it until after its trip to the dryer.

I checked online if I could find a replacement and ordered a couple of different options. 
 

WFH

I was planning on working from home Friday, one of the few in the office who didn’t take the day off for an extra long weekend. Shortly after I fired up my laptop, Norma decided to jump on the roof of Alias’ new favorite place to nap, a soft cat house. The roof collapsed causing both Alias and Norma to flee from the unexpected turn of events. One of them disconnected the power cord from my laptop bending and breaking the piece that plugs into the laptop. So I worked as long as the battery lasted and then had to call it a day. I guess I’m not complaining but I was really looking forward to getting some things done.

Teaming Up

Comfy Cozy

Alias is making the rounds. It’s been a while since any of my housemates have used this pod bed. I figured it’s been warm upstairs and this bed probably retains warmth more than the others since it envelops its occupant. 

Mat Time

Norma loves to hide underneath mats. Since we have multiple mats spread through the house, I have to make sure to check that’s she’s not underneath whenever I step on a mat.
 

Goop

Kenta is constantly cleaning himself so I’ve been giving him hairball gel. He loves it. He gets some two days a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays. When those days arrive I let him know it’s goop day. As soon as I pull the tube out of the drawer, he wiggles in excitement. I once left the tube on the counter and he chewed holes in it. He loves his goop.
 

Pillow Talk

I asked my housemates to recreate the pose on the pillow. Two of them lined up to do so. I guess the newcomer didn’t like his depiction on the pillow.
 

King of the Main Level

Kenta has claimed the main level as the own. While the rest of us spend the work day upstairs, and sleep upstairs at night, he loves looking out the big living room window and sleeping in the cat bed next to the window. I think that’s where he sleeps at night as well.
 

Alias, a Competitor

Alias just proved he’s no slouch when it comes to competing with his sister and brother as the most comfortable napper in our house.

Kenta declared it ‘hug your brother day’ yesterday.
 

Cat Cave

This is Alias new favorite napping place. We’ve had it since the beginning of the year and before this week he never showed much interest in it. I guess it’s a summer napping spot.

 Kenta is the king of comfort. I may need to get him a bigger bed.

Back to the Routine

I’m back at work after a two and a half week medical leave. Alias is curious? Confused? Concerned? That we’ve returned to the old routine.
 

Father’s Day

I told Kenta I’m expecting a fancy Father’s Day gift and it’s our tradition for the youngest to arrange for that.
 

Smile

Few things make me smile wider than seeing Alias and Norma napping together.

I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this comfortable anytime in my life.
 

Love

I’m coming to an end of a two and a half week medical leave from work. I can’t even express how much these three have meant to me during my leave. They are amazing and have kept love in my heart.

Kenta saw Norma squeeze into this box so he just had to try as well. This led to a quick exit by Norma as Kenta didn’t respect her personal space. I think both were proving that no box is too small to crawl into.
 

Super Snuggler

Alias’ superpower is his snugability. He’s been Norma’s favorite snuggle partner since their first days on the planet. Kenta loves to snuggle with his brother. Even Theo, who was ailing, accepted snuggles from Alias. It’s a great superpower to have.
 

Tricks of the Trade

I saw Kenta playing with his favorite toy, a fuzzy porcupine. He usually just carries it around the house in his mouth but this time he was flinging it with his claws around the room. That’s exactly the way Norma plays with cat toys. I love how Kenta is learning from his siblings how to live his best life.
 

Norma Jean

Adorable isn’t Norma’s middle name but it could be.
 

Update

I canceled Kenta’s vet appointment. The bump on his chest is gone. Not sure what it was but if I had to guess I’d say it was a sibling induced wound.
