Dirty Clothes

Norma continues to enjoy sleeping in my clothes hamper. I wish I could teach her to throw the dirty clothes in the washing machine, dry them and then fold them. Alas, I don’t think she’s interested in all that.

Comfort

Theo and Norma have spent some time together the past two days. This is highly unusual. I think she knows he’s feeling under the weather and wants some company.

Theo

Theo began taking medicine for his hyperthyroidism on Monday. He didn’t eat for the next four days. Friday, I called the vet and got an appetite stimulation drug prescribed. The medication is applied by rubbing it on the ear. It must have smelled interesting because Alias and Norma tried hanging around their tired brother.

Theo did try to eat a little bit that evening but he threw everything he ate up. Saturday morning his full appetite returned so I haven’t had to apply the new medication since that first time. I stopped with the thyroid medication on Wednesday but the vet suggested Friday I try giving Theo a lower dose. I haven’t resumed that yet because I want Theo to eat several meals first. Hopefully we’ll figure all this out and keep Theo feeling as well as possible.

Vet Visit

Norma’s trip to the vet went pretty well. She was none too pleased when I grabbed her and pushed her into the carrier. And even less pleased on the car ride over. But once we got inside the clinic she settled down and unlike her brothers didn’t continue her howling. She’s healthy and forgave me that evening when she took a nap on my legs.

Her Way

This is one of Norma’s favorites spots to sit, on the ledge looking down to the bottom of the staircase. I don’t especially like her sitting there because it’s a good ten foot fall to the bottom. Alias jumps up there occasionally, as did Diego-San. Theo and Thompson almost never tried sitting on the ledge.

Hold On

They were separated for one of the only times yesterday. Norma is seeing to it that doesn’t happen again. Don’t tell her it’s going to happen Saturday when she is whisked off to the vet.

Big Day

Big day… Theo, Alias and Norma had appointments for their annual visits to the vet. I’ve been trying to get Theo in for the past six months but he was placed on a waiting list. So when the clinic called to schedule Norma and Alias, I made sure Theo was included too. I know he hasn’t been feeling well for quite some time. His eye has been watering and his nose is runny. He’s having a harder and harder time walking and there are days he doesn’t eat.

Theo’s appointment was early in the afternoon. The clinic moved into a new location, a new building less than five minutes from my house. He howled his protest on the short drive over. They gave him some pain medication to help with some dental issues that hopefully will help him eat better. They also did a blood test. When I brought him back home, Norma freaked out, likely from the different smell coming from her brother. The rest of the afternoon I had to keep the two of them apart otherwise Norma would hiss and growl at him.

Alias and Norma’s appointments were late in the afternoon. I tried to strategically bring out their carrier but both ran away at the sight of it, even though they’ve only been in it twice, last year for their vet visit and the time I brought them home from their foster home. I coaxed Norma to come over and I got her in the carrier. I coaxed Alias to come out of hiding but when I tried to put him in the carrier Norma got out and ran away. I was able to coax her over to me again, this time I tried to put her in another carrier. She was having no part of it. She hissed and scratched me and ran away. So I brought Alias to the vet by himself. He howled at the top of his lungs the entire time. But he checked out healthy. I had to reschedule Norma’s appointment for the weekend. I’m going to have to figure out a strategy to get her in the carrier.

Report Card

They noted the housemaid didn’t do a very good job making their bed. While they are OK with it now, they will continue to evaluate the housemaid’s work to determine if a new one is warranted.
