Interpreting Theo

Theo is noticing I’m not in the kitchen, and I can’t feed him if I’m not in the kitchen so he is wondering why I’m not in the kitchen.
 

Mousie

We have a new nightly routine. Alias loves to play fetch with a toy mouse (I call it mousie). It’s really old, I think it pre-dates Thompson and Diego-San and belonged to Mr. Max. But no one ever had an interest in playing with it until Alias.

He can carry it in his mouth and will retrieve it and bring it back to me until I get tired and stop throwing it. However, Norma wants to play too only she doesn’t play fetch. Instead she intercepts my throws, knocks the mousie down and then plays with it. She’s remarkably athletic, timing her leaps perfectly. She’d make a great NFL cornerback. So Alias patiently waits until his sister is finished and then he’ll bring the mousie back to me to resume our game of fetch.

They know I keep the mousie in the bathroom drawer when we are finished, and now every time I open that drawer Norma runs over thinking the mousie is making another appearance…

 

Osmosis

Alias is hoping osmosis will help him gain his brother’s wisdom. Alias already clearly knows everything Theo has learned has to do with a full belly.
 

Old Man

I told Norma how old that laundry basket is. I brought it with me to college and how long ago that was. She now thinks I am very old.
 

Thelonious Dribble

Someone at the rescue I found Theo at had the audacity to tell me, “that boy isn’t right in the head…” So of course I knew then and there that I would be bringing him home. We had something in common… Not sure what the comment was about but Theo certainly does a lot of things I’ve never seen other cats do… like sit for 15 minutes like this…He’s the only cat I’ve lived with that has a middle name… Dribble, his name at the shelter that still fits him well…
 

Warmth

It got really cold here over the weekend with below zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills. Norma and Alias didn’t mind. Just meant more snuggling.
 

Happy New Year

Theo is glad 2021 is behind us. He’s gonna put his best paw forward in 2022. He just needs to figure out which one that is.

Snow

They were fascinated by the snow falling against the bedroom skylight. They were frightened the next day by the sound of the blades of snowplows cleaning the snow off the street. Norma even missed a meal (served later) because she was scared.

 

Tiny Me

Alias believes I have superpowers that allow me to tower over him when I’m nearby and shrink a lot when I’m further away. Here he is looking at tiny me.

Brothers

From the beginning I’ve loved Alias willingness to bond with his new brother, with a life/home change. When I brought Norma and him into their new home in the PTU, Norma shrunk into the safest far away space. Alias stood face against the door, no concerns about Theo. And ever since then it’s been the same. During the getting to know period Theo hissed at Alias for violating safe spaces. But they quickly developed a trust. And now they cuddle together on a regular basis. This is due to Alias’ really great personality. He is so accepting and accommodating.

Sister and Brother

It only took a year, but Theo and Norma have finally developed a relationship. A couple of nights ago Theo sought Norma out and last night she came over and snuggled next to him.

Something New

We had wind gusts up to 50 mph and because somebody never got the leaves raked, there were leaves and debris flying all around our house. Alias and Norma spent the entire morning and afternoon sitting in various windows trying to catch the flying leaves. They found this far more entertaining than the football game.
 

Love Pile

When I saw this, it truly melted my heart. Theo has had a difficult couple of years with all the changes in his life. It may just be the dropping temperatures and their landlord refusing to turn the thermostat up causing everyone in the house to seek whatever heat source is available, but I’ve seen signs the past few weeks that Alias and Norma really do appreciate their older brother.

Who Knew?

I’ve had this bag that holds cat toys since late 1990’s and Mr. Max. My dad used to give the boyz Christmas gifts (cat toys) that ended up inside the bag. None of the boyz were brave or interested enough to crawl inside the bag to retrieve the toys. Yesterday when I got home the bag was nearly empty and the living room full of cat toys. I’m guessing the responsible one was not Theo… Still he seems surprised by the treasure trove that was inside the bag…

He says getting things this perfect has taken years of practice so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it right, right away…

Theo is the only one old enough to vote…Fun fact about the mat. I bought it when Diego-San and Thompson were around because the cat in the middle reminded me so much of Theo. It now better represents our current household…

Theo Appreciation Night

It began with Theo skipping his dinner and taking a nap in my bed instead. Alias came up and snuggled up next to his brother. After a while, Norma looked for Alias and when she saw the nap puddle, she decided to join but instead of snuggling against Alias like she normally does, she put her head and paw on Theo. It was a good evening (and Theo eventually ate his dinner).
