Get Well Soon D

We had a pretty scary night here.

I had noticed over the weekend that Diego-san was definitely not himself and he was moving extremely gingerly. I figured it was going to take some time for him to get over the soreness from the procedure that was done last week.

Last night when I got home he went down to use the litter box and I thought I would watch to see if he was in any pain. He did his business fine- and then he tried to hop up on the washing machine. He missed and when I looked at the ground there was a ton of blood. He scampered up to the joist area by the ceiling. I tried to get him down but he knocked my glasses off and moved further away. By the time I got my glasses back on he was nowhere in sight- and he had access to just about any area between the sheet rock ceiling and the joist area of the basement. I had no idea how much he was still bleeding so I was extremely worried he was going to bleed to death before I could get to him. I called him and called him but not a peep. I thought I was going to have to start knocking holes in the sheet rock but even that might not have worked too well since it probably would have just scared him to move to another inaccessible area...

As a last resort I called my friend who house sits him when I'm gone. Diego's always been really fond of her and I thought he might respond to her voice. It took a while but it worked- he eventually let out a small meow so we were able to pinpoint his location. It's not easy seeing a black cat in the darkness... she was able to coax him out.

He's in pretty rough shape but resting OK right now. He had three abscesses and the doctor had to sedate him to cut them out. The wounds look dreadful and she said she might not have gotten all the dying skin off because the area was so big. So he has to go back to see the vet on Thursday. He's wearing a cone and he spent the entire night trying trying to get it off. he was so loopy from the sedative I was worried he was going to hurt himself so i stayed up all night trying to calm him down.

He ate a full meal and drank a ton of water this morning and even used the litter box. We just took a long nap together after i gave him his pain medication (it's a narcotic so it knocks him out pretty good although he was purring so loud and trying to rub his face against mine cone be damned that again I was a bit worried he was going to tear the wounds open more...)

Theo is absolutely freaking out about all this. I think a lot of it has to do with the change in his routine- moving a litter box water dish, and dinner dish, not letting him see diego, me sleeping in a different room with the door closed... He spent ALL last night outside the door crying. and did the same thing this morning.

OH NO! Poor Diego! That sounds so painful. Thank goodness you were able to coax him out so he could get treatment. I'm glad he seems to be more comfortable now, and I hope he gets all better soon. Sending my best purrs!

Diego honey we are sorry to read about this!
We send purrs and gentle headbutts for a speedy recovery. SS&S

Shaggy had an abscess once near his butt. He had spent a day hiding under the couch and the next morning I found him under a bed in a puddle of blood & pus. This happened when Scout was younger & the vet thinks he nipped Shaggy on the rear and caused it. -SSS's mom Diego will feel better soon!

I hope Diego feels better soon. I'm sure Thompson is also upset, but less vocal than Theo.

If possible, you should try to block off that hiding place because he knows it's there and you don't want any of the cats disappearing up there again.
