New Years Eve

It's the last day of the year. Kenta thinks he did a pretty good job keeping his toys busy, his siblings busier, emptying his food dish, and keeping an eye on the neighborhood from his favorite window. All in all a great year.
 

Norma and Alias

The two of them came from a litter of six. They bonded with each other from the start. They were smart in doing so because they compliment each other perfectly. Alias' mellow personality suits Norma's squirrely side very well. They know when the other wants to be left alone and when the other wants to snuggle. They both get daily zoomies. Alias howls as he tears up and down stairs and hallways. Norma squeals as she does something she knows I don’t like, knocking things off desks, tables and shelves, crawling into electronic wiring.

When’s Spring?

It warmed up the past few days enough to melt some of the snow cover. Now it’s supposed to get really cold again. It looks like it’s going to be a long winter.

Kenta saw a big tree in our neighbor’s living room. I had to explain to him we don’t do that in our house. So he climbed on top of the next best thing.

It Sucks

A couple of years ago I bought a vacuum cleaner specifically designed for pet fur. It really sucked… in a good way. It worked great until it met Kenta. Kenta’s fur clumps onto the carpet so I have to pickup individual clumps of fur. 
 

Gratitude

Every day for the last five years, these two have made my day brighter. That they’ve spent every day of their lives together is a big reason why.

Snuggle Buddy

We got our first significant snow Saturday. Norma made it extra hard to get out of bed, with her snuggled warmly against my side underneath the covers. I eventually did get up and shovel the five inches of snow.
 

Thank You Kenta

Kenta really helped me. I was having the most serious anxiety attack of my life. Norma and Aliax were out of control energetic both because I was behaving in a way they’d never seen before and because their dinner time was being delayed. Kenta came over and sat on my chest, something that is unusual and rare. He purred away and let me pet him. This lasted for 10 minutes or so and it helped me get my breath back, and the sweating to wane.

Hidden Talent

One of Norma’s many talents is her ability to tear labels off of boxes. None of the cats I’ve lived with have ever tried it.

Happy Boy

Saturday was Kenta’s two year gotcha anniversary although technically his gotcha day was about two weeks later since he spent his first two weeks with us, hiding underneath my futon frame in the basement. But once he trusted his new hone was a loving home, he came out of his shell in a big way. He’s taught me a lot these past couple of years about loving every day and loving everything we have day to day.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Norma went for my jugular yesterday morning.She was sleeping under the sheets right next to me as she likes to do. She heard something downstairs so she crawled out from the covers and straddled herself on my shoulder. When she heard the noise again she hurdled herself toward the stairs. Her hind claw launched from my neck leaving a deep scratch. I screamed. Thing was I knew it could happen but I was too slow and sleepy to lift her forward (which might have caused her to launch herself anyway).

Alias did mention to Kenta that there are empty beds on both sides of them.

The Four of Us

Kenta has been spending more and more time upstairs with the three of us. Because I run a space heater upstairs it’s warmer. Or he just wants us all to enjoy his company more.

Vying for Attention

Norma has learned that when I get up from my desk near a meal time her brothers are going to tear down the hallway and race downstairs. So she hops up on the ledge next to the stairs to avoid getting stampeded. Unfortunately, Kenta has seen how I praise and pet Norma when she’s on the ledge so now he hops up there too and nudges his sister aside. Poor Norma.

Food Sharing

Norma is eating more than ever before, which isn’t saying much. But the last meal of a day is wet food. She loves the wet food. She finishes first and then helps herself to what’s left of Alias’ meal. He doesn’t protest but rather he goes over and helps himself to what’s left of Kenta’s meal. I find it interesting Alias doesn’t fight his sister for the food but rather knows Kenta will let him eat his food. I think we all have learned when Norma is determined to do something her stubbornness is going to prevail.
