Kaboom
We live within walking distance of our state fairgrounds. The state fair began last Thursday and continues through Labor Day. At the end of every night, they shoot off fireworks. Norma and Alias are not fond of the noisy sky.

The Aftermath
I had an unscheduled day off because I/T had to install some updates on my computer and I needed to leave it with them. After avoiding me most of the weekend (the screaming and hollering clearly frightened them), Alias and Norma helped me do some writing on the kitchen table and then later napped on my lap as I read a book. Peace in the valley.

Wits End
Norma and I had a serious confrontation over the weekend. I have the great cats that led the way, Mr. Max’s, Thompson’s, and Diego-san’s ashes and clay paw prints stored on a shelf in my bedroom. Norma, my first cat who needs to do what I’ve heard is a common feline thing and knock things onto the floor, knocked all my tributes to my late feline loves onto the floor. I WAS PISSED…Angrily upset… I yelled at her knowing she coudn’t possibly understand her sin, hours after the fact. I slept through the desecration.
Thankfully none of the ashes or clay paw prints memorials broke . But I’ll admit I’m at my wit’s end about Norma’s behavior. How do any of you deal with a cat that is obsessed with knocking things off their normal location onto the floor? I may need to move such sentimental things to a more secure location but that sucks. Ideas?

Surprise Gifts
Norma’s trying to figure out this mysterious system where once in a while I’ll open the outside door and bring in a new box for her to sit in. It’s almost magical.

Routine Boy
I worked back at the office most of last week, onboarding a new employee. Norma and Alias were pretty wound up by the time I got back home. The big news however, was Theo was his pre-2020 self, greeting me at the door and following me around until there was food in his dish. I knew last year was really hard on him with the loss of Diego-San and the addition of two new siblings. What I realize now is the hardest part of all was the complete change in the routine. He never figured that out,,,
Back working at home again…

Cat Whisperer
I told Norma the other day that one of the things I miss most about Diego-San is nearly every night we were together he slept right by my side, head on my shoulder or arm. He even had a signal that he was cold and wanted to climb under the covers (he’d paw the blankets and sheets until I lifted them for him to climb underneath).
Norma must’ve understood because ever since then when I turn off the lights, she has lay down next to me. She doesn’t stay there long, five minutes at most, but I appreciate the extra time together. I guess I’m some sort of cat whisperer…

Theo’s Wisdom
Theo is passing down some wisdom to Alias. I’m sure it’s something along the lines of making sure to pester the food guy at all times to provide more food. Alias is all ears.

Mortal Enemy
I was explaining to Alias how the vacuum cleaner works. “It sucks.” He totally agreed as he ran and hid under the bed.

Payback
For all those years, Theo’s favorite toy, much to Diego-san’s chagrin, was Diego-san’s swishing tail. Theo would swat at it, chase it until Diego finally had enough and would get up and leave. Now Norma has discovered her new favorite toy… Theo’s swishing tail.
