You train cat to use litter box, same way you teach puppy to go on paper. After he eat and drink you keep on him until it look like he looking to do something. Then you take him to littler box. If he goes in litter box then you praise him and give him treat. If he go somewhere else you put him in time out. He learn, quick.
Even when he's resting Theo still seems to be doing something.
