I saw Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys' show at the Minnesota Zoo last night. I've seen Los Lobos several times and the Zoo is a nice place to see a concert. It has an outdoor amphitheater and the music doesn't seem to disturb the animals much. Los Lobos opened their set appropriately with "How Will the Wolf Survive?"
I've never seen Los Lonely Boys before. They rocked the place.
The biggest faux pas both bands committed was that Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos and Henry and Jojo Garza from Los Lonely Boys committed the cardinal sin by continually thanking "Minneapolis." Technically the Zoo is in the suburb of Apple Valley and at the very least the guys could have thanked Minneapolis and St. Paul since we are the Twin Cities after all. Someone must have gotten to Cesar because halfway through Los Lobos' set he corrected himself and started thanking "Minneapolis AND St. Paul..."
Dear Meow....
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, however, these guys are in a different city every night for months on end and it kind of becomes a big blur at a certain point, I'm sure. Give 'em a break... at least they didn't thank um, let's say, Columbus or Grand Rapids! And, after all, it is the "Minneapolis" Zoo Amphitheatre, right?
LL and LLB are spectacular bands putting out GREAT music. Just appreciate that they were in your neighborhood.
Orale! A fan in VT
Dear Nan,
ReplyDeletethanks for the comment. You are right I am nitpicking... just a pet peeve of mine. Even Prince who's from around here kept thanking minneapolis when he played at the Xcel Center in St. Paul. And actually the amphitheatre is at the "Minnesota" Zoo. it was a very fun show though... and I'll definitely make an effort to see both bands again.
