Woof Woof

My friend M- had a family emergency so she asked if I could take care of her dogs, Kurbie and Torii, for a couple of days. This means leaving the boyz to fend for themselves for long periods of time given the distance between M-'s and my houses. It's good to see Kurbie and Torii again but I do feel bad for my boyz...

Theo's Waiter Joke

Theo: "Hey Diego-san I heard that giraffes can go a long time without water."

Diego-san: "Uh-huh."

Theo: "But they want their menus right away."

Diego-san: "I don't get it."

Boo

I felt sorry for Diego-san this afternoon. The grocery delivery guy knocked on the door right as I was giving their boyz their dinner. Diego got scared and bolted down to the basement. This gave Theo the opportunity to double his dinner and left Diego with none. I had to leave so Diego had to wait until I got home. It's not as if any of the boyz couldn't stand to miss a meal or two, but I felt bad for him.

March Madness

It's been cold, rainy and gray here all week. The forecast is calling for more of the same for the next few days. It's the type of weather where it's good to find a snuggle buddy to sleep the day away with.

Of course SOME of us have to get up and make sure we earn enough to heat the house and make sure we are all fed.

My First Crush

A long long time ago, long before Theo and Diego-san had their first battle, I passed two girls on my elementary school playground. It was clear by the resemblance that the two were sisters. The younger one looked at me and for the first time in my life I fell in love. The next year she was in my class and I of course was far too shy to say anything to her. When our class shared Valentines with each other I made sure I gave her the nicest one in my store bought mass produced bundle. Years passed and I admired her from a far, but still I was far too shy to say anything. Her family moved away when we were in junior high.

Why do I share this little story? Because through the miracle of Facebook, we now are Facebook friends. I sent a friend invite to her, not knowing if it was really her, and not really expecting her to remember me let alone accept. But yesterday she did. This Facebook thing is a little bizarre...

I'm the Boss

I turned on the TV last night to watch the President's press conference. Theo obviously thought he had more to say than the President because he kept mewing throughout the press conference.

Another Sign of Spring

I can tell the house is warming up... Last night was the first night in a long time that Diego-san didn't try to crawl underneath the covers with me.

Colburns Delivers

I signed up for a grocery delivery service mostly because shopping for groceries ranks right up there with going to the dentist as two of my least favorite activities. Today I got my first delivery... what a slick system. I can order everything online and a few hours later... the groceries appear on my doorstep. Of course the very first item I ordered was Temptations for the boyz.

Theo's Big Adventure

Theo had his annual visit to the vet yesterday. He came through with flying colors- he's lost a half a pound since last year, down to 11.4 lbs. He clearly wasn't enjoying the adventure- he shook like a little bunny during the entire examination.

I took a mental health day off from work to spend with the boyz. Theo obviously wasn't too mad at me about dragging him off to the vet as he spent much of the afternoon and evening lying on my chest.

Spring Cleaning

Thompson does more than his share to make sure that the house (and more importantly its occupants) remain somewhat presentable...

Life Lesson

I've added eating a grapefruit to my morning routine. With this addition I've learned a valuable lesson. It's impossible to eat a grapefruit with a kitty sitting on your lap. The fruit is too squirty and the kitty is too squirrely.

Namesake

I've been re-watching the Ken Burns PBS documentary about jazz. I got to the episode that features Thelonious Monk- the jazz pianist who Theo was named after. It wasn't an intentional consideration, but looking at the two, I think there actually is a slight resemblance... I only picked the name because I liked "Thelonious" and I thought "Theo" was a nice shortening of the name...

Agreed

It's nearly impossible to get the boyz to participate in group activities as a trio. But after a long long winter all three boyz were more than happy to drink in their first smell of fresh spring air together...

Tweet Tweet

It was sunny and in the mid-50's yesterday. And... I was actually woken by the sound of a bird chirping. March is traditionally our second snowiest month so I'm not letting my guard down but I did notify Thompson that soon we'll be able to open some windows...

Freaky Friday

With each of the boyz having their own personality quirks, in our house you just never know what might be lurking around the corner. Theo is the probably the best of all of us at never letting his guard down. At the same time he is also the one most likely to jump you from unexpected spots...

Something for Everyone

For Christmas I bought the boyz a fancy scratching post that has a space that they can crawl into and swat cloth mice that are hung in some holes. I put the gift out and since I had just returned from out of town I went up to do some unpacking. When I came back downstairs to see how the boyz liked their new gift I found Theo and Thompson more curious about the state of their empty dinner dish. So I went to feed the boyz not seeing Diego-san anywhere in sight. I figured he'd come running out when he heard the food being dumped in his dinner dish. I went back to the living room to find a good permanent spot to place the new scratching post. When I picked it up I was surprised at how sturdy it seemed. I hadn't realized it was that well made. When I put it down I realized why it was heavier than I remembered. Diego was sitting happily inside.

Since then Theo is the only one to consistently use the scratching pad. Thompson likes to stand on top of the post. Diego-san loves to occupy the hiding space. I'm glad the gift has turned out to be not only popular, but versatile.

A Different Angle

Here's a bird's eye view of the Diego and Thompson. I'll give Mr. Birdy a word of advice however... I wouldn't get too near to the boyz. You never know when one of them might reach up and grab you.

Backpack Kitty

Just like Theo, I had to break Diego-san the news... despite his enthusiasm for new adventures I wasn't taking him to work with me.

DST

Theo is on a rigid schedule so the loss of an hour of sleep this morning has him a bit discombobulated. Still, I may get an extra hour of sunlight in the evening but I'm not sure our house's resident sun expert will notice any difference in that change of the clock time whatsoever.

Gamers

Thompson and Theo are pretty good at coming up with new games. Here they demonstrate the latest, "Let's look at Diego-san's butt."

The Magnificient Diego-san

The big finale to Diego-san's magic act is his 'kitty sawed in two' trick. How does he do it? And how does he put himself back together again?

The Kreativ Award

Cliff and Olivia gave the boyz this nice award. The rules are to list six things that make the boyz happy. We'll give equal time to each of the guyzos so they get two a piece...

Diego-san is always happy when I comb him. He's also very happy when meal times come around.

Thompson is always happy when I rub his face. He's also very happy when meal times come around.

Theo is always happy when I play fetch with him. He's also very happy when meal times come around.

Thanks again Olivia and Cliff for honoring the boyz.

Big Day in Music

While much of the music world is excited about the release of U2's latest CD today, I'm more excited about the new release from Neko Case. Meanwhile, Theo is still waiting for me to add some Josie and the Pussycats music to our collection.

Soup Special

On my way out the door to curling I gave the boyz an update on my dinner plans. "I think I'll just have some soup or something," I said. Diego-san looked up at me with eyes that asked "You're going to have a super what?"

Oh the fun we have.

Suddenly Sunday

On the other hand, there are other boyz in the house that can't believe how quickly the weekend disappears.
