Faster than a speeding...

Theo and I were watching the "Late Show with David Letterman." One of Dave's guests was Jack Hanna, the director the Columbus Zoo.  Hanna brought out a baby cheetah and noted that the cheetah is the fastest land animal.  Theo immediately perked up and wanted me to arrange a race.  I told him I'd get right on that.

Dream You

I had a dream the other night that a bunch of black cats (including some very cute black kittens) somehow got in our house and I had a hard time figuring out which one was Diego-san.  I awoke kinda startled only to find Diego-san soundly asleep in his usual spot right next to me with his head draped over my arm.  Sometimes reality is much better than dreams.

Alert!

Just like Homeland Security, Theo has different alert levels.  This one is set at "tuxedo."

It's Way Past Dinnertime

I somehow managed to schedule going to three concerts in five nights last week. When I see a show has tickets up for sale I tend to just look at my calendar to see if I have anything going on that particular night. Lesson learned, I should really look at the entire week because I'm much too old to be going to so many shows in such a short time.  And the boyz were none too pleased with their erratic feeding schedule and disruption of the normal evening routine.

The first show I saw was Nellie McKay. I've been a fan of Nellie for a long time ever since I heard her song, "Ding Dong" that begins with the line, "My cat died and I quickly poured myself some gin..." She's been an animal activist and I describe her as being a snarky Doris Day- a nice combination. She's terribly witty and that was on full display at the concert. "This song is for my arch nemesis Harry Connick Jr" and later on- "I'd like to dedicate this song to my future ex-husband... Ralph Nadar."

The next show was Spoon at the State Theater, one of the beautiful historic theaters in downtown Minneapolis. I've never considered myself a huge Spoon fan but there hasn't been a CD of theirs that I've disliked and most have impressed me on some level. The show was terrific- probably the best show I've been to this year.  They blew the roof off of the place.

The final show of the week was Meiko at the Loring Pasta Bar on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Again- not a huge fan of hers but I saw a show she did on DirecTV's audience channel and really liked a couple of songs she performed. She's a charming performer and I loved how she shared that she grew up in a very small town in Georgia, and being part Japanese was very important to her since it made her feel like she stood out from the others in town. I immediately could relate to what she was saying although for me being one of two Asian-Americans in my high school class was a mixed bag. Sometimes I was glad I didn't have to try to distinguish myself in any way because I stuck out in an obvious way. Other times I would have done anything to feel like I could just blend in (a feeling that was reinforced when I took my only trip to Japan in 1998 and the overwhelming feeling was one of finally feeling relaxed that I didn't stand out in any way shape or form in the sea of people).

A fun week but one I don't think I'll be repeating any time soon (or at least until Mr. Dylan makes an appearance or two or three... here in November).

Inside Out

For only the second time ever, Diego-san got outside the house without a leash on. I was bringing in some groceries and didn't quite latch the storm door behind me. He pushed the door open and ran out onto the lawn. We live along a fairly busy street so immediately I was concerned he might bolt out into the street. Unfortunately my immediate reaction was to yell at him, which only scared him. Fortunately he sat frozen by the steps and allowed me to approach, pick him up and bring him back into the house.

The first time he got outside was when he tore a hole in a window screen. I hadn't seen him around for a while so I took a look and noticed the hole in the screen. I ran outside and found him sitting in the window ledge trembling like a bunny as the cars passed by.

So for all his inside bravado where at least he thinks he rules (and he probably is right), thankfully he isn't quite so sure what to do outside in the big old world. He spent much of the rest of the weekend by the door howling to be let out again. I told him to talk with Thompson about how dangerous it can be outside and how he really has a pretty good life inside. (I told him in addition to the lack of regular meals, it was unlikely the rabbits and squirrels would comb him every night.)

Years back, pre-Theo, I used to bring Thompson and Diego-san outside on leashes for walks. The problem was the two tended to want to go in different directions and I was left trying to reel them both in... We then took to taking turns on who got to go outside but Thompson didn't seem all that interested in being outside again so the walks stopped although I knew Diego-san was ever so curious about everything he previously never had access to (like grass and trees).

So Sunday afternoon I dug out a leash and brought Diego-san outside. He didn't seem to know what to do with himself and went back to the door to go back inside.

Of course once back inside again he stood by the door and cried to be let out...

Brotherly Love Part 2

video

To be fair to Diego-san, the end of this grooming session was a wrestling match with Thompson hissing at Theo and then running away.

Brotherly Love

video

I mentioned to Diego-san that if he keeps whapping Theo on the head, Theo might get brain damage and become even more of a pest to him.  I'm not sure that's gonna change Diego-san's approach to his younger brother however.

Lover Boy

He's technically head over heels,  but I don't think he's pining.

Apple Watch Look

This was Thompson's reaction when I told him I'm thinking of spending $350 on a watch.

Growing Old

I informed Theo that when he gets older he'll be sleepy and lazy just like his two brothers.  I think that was a real eye opener to him.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

If I found Diego-san lying around like this I'd know he was expecting the furminator to come out for a combing session.  Thompson? Not so much. He's learned to enjoy a lot of Diego-san's activities over the years but combing is not one of them.

Paw Down

Thompson has put his supervisor paw down.  It's time to get started on some of our fall cleaning efforts.

Action Shot

All the most recent posts have shown the boyz lazily lounging around.  Theo decided it was time to pep things up a little on this blog. So he sat up.

Laborless Day

One of us had to go out and mow the lawn.  Others of us, not so much.

Monday Boy

Today is Theo's favorite Monday ever... well since last Monday anyway.

No Names Please

Someone has taken to walking back and forth across my body starting at about 3 a.m.  I won't mention any names because this is really annoying behavior but I will just say the culprit is pictured here.

Lining Up

Thompson thought he saw a line forming in this spot yesterday but now it's gone. He hopes he didn't miss anything important.

Line of One

Diego-san isn't sure what he's standing in line for but he has learned that in our house it's often best to be first in line so you don't have to wait for the other two.

Almost Perfect

Theo thinks the only thing missing from one of his favorite resting spots is a comfy arm rest.

Training Day

We've had some cool evenings the past week. It served as a wake up call that the boyz best begin working out for the upcoming synchronized snoozing season.
