Word on the Street

Diego-san heard the word on the street is that some of his butt ailments from the past year get mentioned in the family holiday letter.  He's not too thrilled about that...

Awarded

The fine folks at Celestial Kitties awarded the boyz this award. Of course with three boyz and seven items, there was disagreement about how to respond to the award.  As the impartial arbitrator of this blog I will respond on behalf of the boyz:

1) Thompson is the loner of the house.  Diego-san has to be in the same room as me 80 percent of the time. Theo has to be in the same room as me 90 percent of the time and if he's not in the same room with me he has to be in the same room as Thompson or Diego-san the other 10 percent of the time.  It's not unusual for Thompson to sleep in the living room by himself at night or not join the rest of us when we are downstairs watching TV.  I can't possibly be classified as a loner since I'm living with three cats... oh wait I guess that might be looked upon that way...

2) Diego-san is the most observant of the three boyz.  If I move something, anything in a room, the first thing he'll do when he enters that room is to check out the new location of the item.  It's uncanny how he immediately spots anything different in a room.

3) Theo has a natural pacifier- the tip of his tail.  I'll often sit Theo in my lap, tummy side up and bring the tip of his tail up to his nose.  He'll almost always start peacefully licking his tail like a lollipop and will mindlessly continue to do so until I take it away.

4) Thompson is the only one micro-chipped (not counting myself).  I think this seems a little ironic since he's likely the one who least needs it.  If he somehow got out of the house and brought to a location that could read the chip, it's likely I'd already be calling on the lookout for a missing three-legged cat.

5) Diego-san demonstrated the most strategic fighting move ever seen in the house.  He was in a stare-down with Thompson once and he swiftly swatted Thompson's lone front leg out from under him causing Thompson to tumble into a position of vulnerability ready for the oncoming pouncing.  I thought it was quite mean of Diego to do that, but I had to give him points for coming up with the manuever...

6) One thing Theo has learned from his brothers is how to speak his mind.  When he first joined the household he barely said a peep, and if he did speak, it was always in a little tiny peep.  More and more he has started to match Thompson in the frequency of his speaking, and Diego-san in the volume.

7) Diego-san has the deepest purr; Thompson the cutest snore; Theo is the best headbutter.

We'd love any of the kitties reading this to share seven things about them on their own blogs if they haven't already done so...

Two Thoughts

Thompson thinks the back of Theo's head smells like chicken.  Theo is trying to figure out a way to lick the back of his own head.

Theo's Advice

Often when trying to stay warm in a very cold house one will forget to make sure one's nose is snugly covered by a blanket. It something that is easy to forget.

Thankful

After a weekend of watching football, some online shopping, and way too much bumming around, Thompson is ready for the normal routine to resume.  Of course he didn't protest any of the occassional turkey treats he was given over the weekend.

Vogue

I told the boyz it was time for some Christmas card photography.  Theo struck a pose.

Priorities

While some stand for hours in lines waiting to buy things, Thompson sleeps snugly in his bed...

No "I" in Team

We have many many things to be thankful for in our house but one of the things we are most thankful for is that somehow fate conspired to bring us all together.

The Renaissance Cat

Because owls are wise it's good to try to look like them.  Because black bears are tough, it's also good to look like them.  Here is Diego-san's imitation of an owly black bear.

Occasional Snuggler

Thompson isn't one who likes to be picked up.  Most of the time if I do that he gives me a good growl and merely puts up with a little hug.  Given my absences around the house the past few weeks there have been a surprising number of times when he hops over and asks to be picked up.  How does he let me know that this is what he wants? He puts his front paw on my knee and digs the claws in.  I don't mind though because he's an awesome snuggler when he wants to be.

Monday

Some of us stress out about how quickly Monday seems to come after a too busy weekend.  Theo?  Not so much.

Diego-san's Holiday

Diego-san is thrilled that the nation is more and more recognizing the holiday in his honor, Black Friday.  He's expecting lots of treats and gifts next Friday.

Ante Up

The boyz and I watched another segment of "Stupid Pet Tricks" on David Letterman's show.  My favorite were two dogs- one got in a a little plastic car, the other pushed the car from behind.  I told the boyz it's long past the time to learn a trick to get us all on national TV.  I don't think they were too receptive of the idea.

A Strategy

Theo's practicing the 'if I sit on the kitchen table with my sweetest look on my face, maybe food will magically appear' strategy.

Back to the Way Things Have Been

Thompson is glad that I've resumed narratoring the blog.  My judicious use of verbs helps things to remain calm in the house.

Day Two

More notes from over the weekend from the boyz's new sitter: "Three hungry boys again today. I petted and brushed each one just a little.  I got all three purring.  Diego-san is decieving.  He's skinnier than he looks.  I had to be gentle with the furminator so I didn't hurt his bones.  Thompson has been fine, allowing me to pet and brush him..."

Day One

The boyz, being the literary experts they are, sometimes accuse me of being an unreliable narrator of their story.  For this past trip I hired a new sitter, and I thought I'd share her notes from her visits to provide another point of view.

"All three were happy to see me, mainly because they were hungry! They really voiced their opinions on that!  Food was eaten within minutes. Thompson settled in a kitty bed, in the kitty room.  The other two followed me up and down and watched as I did chores. All allowed me to pet them- even shy Thompson (he's sniffing my feet right now.)"

To be continued...

Back Home

Got back from a weekend in Chicago.  The boyz were on their own for three days and two nights.  Unlike my return from other trips they actually showed me that they all missed me some... I went downstairs during the evening to watch some football and nap and for one of the rare times all three napped on me.  Theo slept on my legs; Diego-san slept on my stomach; and Thompson got the primo place- right on my chest...

Mr. Bob

Went to see Bob Dylan play in downtown St. Paul Wednesday night.  Now I'm off to Chicago to see him there as well.  The boyz suspect I care more about Dylan than them.  Not true, just that Bob sings better than  the boyz (although granted some would disagree with that).

Not a Peep

My job required me to be at work 21 hours on Tuesday.  This even left Theo speechless.

Election Day

It's election day and the boyz vote today is a good day to get some sleepin, eatin, and yawnin' done.

Madonna

Went to see Madonna. She said she'd never marry a Scorpio. Her loss I guess.

New Day

Thompson thinks Saturday needs to be renamed Napturday.

Knock Knock

It took a little time but Theo finally got used to all the goblins and ghosts and Harry Potters ringing the doorbell demanding treats. He told me he's all ready for it again tonight.
