Diego-san and Thompson have developed this habit over the years of greeting me at the door when I come home at night, getting a pat on the rump or head, and then immediately heading to different scratching posts to sharpen their claws. I'm not entirely sure what this is about but I'm guessing they must mostly sleep when I'm not there and I wake them up with my arrival. So a good stretch is therefore in order...

I know that whenever I am excited about something, I race over to my scratchin' post and scratch like mad. So maybe that's it!

I think cats are also scent-marking when they scratch, so they are reinforcing their claim on your home!
